A Trip to Gettysburg

A rotunda memorial for Union civil war soldiers in a field

On our 2023 family road trip to Philadelphia we spent a good portion of a day taking the auto tour of the Gettysburg battlefield. We originally toured the area in 2004 on another road trip, but I had just finished fourth grade and didn’t really understand the Civil War or the importance of the battle.

In the months leading up to it, I found the American Battlefield Trust’s YouTube channel, which has a great series of videos discussing everything that happened that day as well as an animated map. So this time when we were there, it was easier to understand the significance of each stop.

Unfortunately it was raining and the top of Little Round Top was closed due to rehabilitation of the area. But I think I still came away with a couple of great photos at least.
